Zaaffran, Indian for saffron, is a pioneer of refined Indian dining in Sydney. Offering a truly authentic blend of culturally rich cuisine from the Indian peninsula, their award winning chef, Vikrant Kapoor uses the freshest Australian produce, with a touch of his own alchemy.
Located at Level 2, Harbourside Centre, Darling Harbour, Zaaffran has been serving traditional Indian cuisine, with a contemporary flair, for an impressive seventeen years.
Head Chef Vikrant Kapoor and Freddie Zulfiqar opened Zaaffran in 1998, with a menu that was way ahead of its time for Indian food in Sydney. The menu has constantly evolved to stay in front of the emerging Indian dining scene.
Zaaffran’s new ‘Koomcha’ menu, meaning Indian hawker food, takes you on a journey through the streets of India with a selection of reimagined barrow-boy classics and includes a range of Kapoor’s childhood favourites, which he has redefined with flavours and presentation guaranteed to impress.
Koomcha dishes are perfect to enjoy as a starter, or diners can share a larger selection to get the full experience. Some of Zaaffran’s must-try Koomcha dishes include Firangi Frankie, Bombay’s version of the original taco with lamb, Chookunder Kay Gilavaat, crisp beetroot patties with ginger and green chilli and semolina crust and Dakhani Kebab, chicken tenderloins, guilded gold with pepper, ginger, garlic and curry leaf.
Zaaffran’s specialty desserts that complete the journey, include Rose Brûleé with fresh strawberries and salted cashew praline plus Saffron & Honey Panna Cotta with saffron apple confit, puffed rice honeycomb and apple pearls.
With a newly renovated restaurant and relaunched menu, Zaaffran offers diners an experience unlike any they will find in Sydney, something they have consistently strived to do over their seventeen year history and will continue to do so. www.zaaffran.com
