Celebrating its 25th year, FLiCKERFEST, Australia’s only Academy® accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival, opened their 2016 season at the Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach on Friday 8 January.

DSC07972Festival Director, Bronwyn Kidd welcomed the opening night crowd and gave an overview of the exciting and varied films that will be screened under the stars during the ten nights of the Festival, which runs through to Sunday, 17 January 2016.

Bronwyn also introduced the Producers / Directors from the seven films selected to be screened that evening, who each gave an entertaining and informative talk about their films and the challenges they faced.

The opening night audience was shown a selection of seven films from the Festival’s programme. Each of the films kept me totally spellbound and left me wanting more. I particularly enjoyed the six minute Australian film “Nulla Nulla” telling the tale of a white cop, fresh out of the police academy, who experiences life in an Aboriginal community and the fifteen minute “Ave Maria” about the nuns in a convent on the West Bank whose prayers are interrupted by a Jewish family needing help after crashing into the convent’s wall.

International, Australian, Documentary, Greenflicks, From the Oscars, Short Laughs Comedy, Windows on Europe, LoveBites are some of the categories making up the Festival. There is even a special category for kids and a Schools Shorts competition.
