DSC05842India’s national carrier, Air India, has daily flights from Sydney to Delhi on their new B-787 Dreamliner aircraft. Said to be the world’s most advanced aircraft, the Dreamliner gives passengers the benefits of a smoother ride with cleaner air resulting in a lesser feeling of jet lag. The large dimmable windows, without shades, go from lightest to darkest in just 60 seconds, by touching the control. There is also a large selection of on-demand entertainment and information programming in all classes.

India’s passion for cricket has been highlighted, in keeping with the spirit of the ICC World Cup, with the launch of a new onboard menu, to be served on Air India’s flights between Australia and India. Dishes on the menu have been named in honour of famous cricketers, from MS Dhoni through to Steve Smith. This cricket themed menu will be served onboard during the period of the tournament.

DSC05884Indian style chicken served with fragrant onion pilaf has been named as Dhoni’s Swashbuckling Super Sixer, a paneer (cottage cheese) dish served with pilaf Jaffrani is called Raina’s Cheesy Pull Shot, fish of the day called Captain Smith’s Catch of the Season and a traditional rasamalai designated as Sachin’s Sweet Drive.

Passengers traveling Business Class will be treated to South African cricketer JP Duminy’s favourite, a non-vegetarian Hors D’oeuvre made with Prawn Kolivada accompanied by Chicken Harayali Tikka, served with creamy cheese and vegetables or Chris Gayle’s Lamb Goulash with potato wedges, carrots and minted green peas.

DSC05952All rounder, Suresh Raina, a member of the current World Cup Team India is a member of the Air India family. The airline has also employed several popular cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Nikhil Chopra and Pravin Amre and it is with their assistance that these menus have been created.

Business Class menu cards signed by cricketers will be presented as a souvenir of the Air India experience. In addition, Business Class passengers will also be given special sleep wear with a bat wielding Maharajah on the front.

Held every four years, the ICC Cricket World Cup is one of the world’s largest international sports tournaments, with fourteen competing teams. Won by India in 2011, the 2015 tournament is the eleventh of the series and is jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The first tournament took place in England in 1975.

DSC05945As well as Australia, Air India’s network connects with Europe, Far-East and South-East Asia, the USA and the Gulf while their domestic network covers 50 destinations. Their fleet of aircraft comprises a mix of the wide body Boeing B777s, B747s, Airbus A330s and their latest acquisition, the B787 Dreamliner, plus the narrow body Airbus A321s, A320s and A319 aircraft.

Air India is a member of the Star Alliance network, which also includes Air New Zealand, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines and United.
