Sydney’s CBD has been given a touch of Southern Europe with the opening of Mordeo Bistro & Bar. Located in the atrium lobby of the Deutsche Bank Building in Phillip Street, this new bistro and bar will certainly be a welcome addition for the occupants of the financial end of town.
At the recent opening event, owner and Executive Chef Nicholas Aspros worked alongside Head Chef Marc Gehret to curate and style a rich collection of produce driven canapés for the night, including quail with caramelised red onion salsa, pea risotto with sage & lberico Jamon and squid ink Gnocchi with truffle salumi. It was such a treat to try so many unique and tasty canapés while being entertained by the Spanish sounds of Ritmos Latinos and Greek Bouzouki player Telly Andrew. If I closed my eyes, I could easily have been in Southern Europe.
Alongside the extensive selection of canapés was produce from artisan Spanish charcuteria La Boqueria and a buffet offering slow cooked octopus carpaccio with split green beans and chorizo sausage, BBQ lamb ribs plus catalana and loukoumadis for dessert.
Highlighting the Southern European atmosphere, the food was matched with a selection of wines from Italy, Spain & France. Amongst the cocktails was a Cold Drip Spiced Rum Old Fashioned, consisting of Kracken spiced rum, cold drip single origin coffee, cold drip syrup, angostura bitters with a twist of orange. I shall definitely be back for another one of those!
Mordeo Bistro & Bar’s style is casual yet refined. Along with their quality food and drinks, matched with exceptional service, I’m sure it won’t be long before Mordeo becomes one of Sydney’s most popular spots, as both a lunch and evening venue.
