DAME EDNA TO PERFORM WITH SYDNEY SYMPHONY

Dame Edna Everage_2MBDame Edna Everage is coming out of retirement to perform a series of concerts with the Sydney Symphony at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on Friday 21 June and Saturday 22 June at 8pm.

Australia’s favourite Dame will star in an evening of orchestral storytelling, which includes Peter and the Wolf and Juanita, the Spanish Lobster plus a world premiere of her own version of Carnival of the Animals.

But be warned, with the Dame on board these will be tales strictly for grownups!  For the young, there is a special matinee on Sunday 23 June at 2pm of Peter and the Wolf with Dame Edna Family Concert.

The concerts will be conducted by Australian Benjamin Northey and will form part of the Sydney Symphony’s Kaleidoscope series, famously known as the series where the orchestra lets its hair down.

This will be Dame Edna’s first performance with the Sydney Symphony in many years, as she last appeared with the orchestra in the 1970s.  Originally from Moonee Ponds, her career has spanned over five decades and taken her around the globe.

According to her own website, Dame Edna is “probably the most popular and gifted woman in the world today” and is known to be a housewife, investigative journalist, social anthropologist, talk show host, children’s book illustrator, spin doctor, megastar and, above all, an Australian Icon.

Always ahead of her time, Dame Edna sports a sartorial style said to have inspired the likes of Elton John and Lady Gaga.  Sandra Tiltman
