Sydney Opera House will be the venue for the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical South Pacific in August 2012.  This will be the first Lincoln Centre Theatre production to ever tour Australia.

Starring Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Emile de Becque and Lisa McCune as Nellie Forbush, with Kate Ceberano and Eddie Perfect as Bloody Mary and Luther Billis.

Written in 1949, South Pacific is considered one of the finest musicals ever written. With a cast of 40 and an orchestra twice the size of most musicals, the score includes the ever popular Some Enchanted Evening, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair and There is Nothin’ Like a Dame.

“South Pacific is full of romantic and uplifting show-stoppers, but it also confronts the issues of mixed-race marriage, prejudice and tolerance,” says Opera Australia artistic director Lyndon Terracini.

Previews commence from 8 August, with the opening night on Saturday, 11 August 2012.

I am looking forward to seeing this production of South Pacific which is one of my all time favourite musical shows.

The production moves to Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from 13 September 2012.
